Agriculture for export is an overlooked economic pillar in Africa, despite its vast potential to boost the continent’s economic growth and development. Africa is home to some of the world’s most fertile land, and its agricultural sector is a major source of employment and income for millions of people. The continent is the world’s largest exporter of cocoa beans, coffee beans and shea nuts, the second largest exporter of cotton and palm oil, and the third largest exporter of rubber and bananas. Agricultural exports are still relatively low compared to other regions of the world. In 2022, Africa accounted for just 10% of global agricultural exports, according to the World Bank. This is much lower than the shares of Asia (32%), Europe (28%) and North America (19%).
Death rates in South Africa have declined slightly during the past few years. But the country faces a steady rise in both death and disability caused by increases in non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and cancer. According to the NCD Alliance, a civil society network, non-communicable diseases cause 71% of deaths globally. Of these deaths 85% occur in low and middle income countries. In South Africa, according to Statistics South Africa, there was an increase of 58% in deaths from non-communicable diseases from 1997 to 2018. Diabetes is the second leading cause of death in South Africa after tuberculosis. Diabetes affects 12% of the adult population, wreaking massive damage to individuals’ health and livelihoods, and to the national fiscus. The direct cost of diabetes to South Africa’s health system is R2.7 billion – and that is only for those patients who are diagnosed. It does not factor in the indirect costs of loss of jobs and income.
Hoogs aansteeklike voëlgriep is reeds by 100 kommersiële pluimveeplase aangemeld.
Take accountability and be proud of yourself and your body- Don't lose your dignity- stay away from negative people- you are not a sheep to follow others. Get excited about yourself and your own people - Stand firm - you came into the world alone- you are going out into the world alone. There is nothing as fulfilling as having a healthy Father and Mother and with it a healthy Grandpa and Grandma. This is what adds value to your humanity. Similarly, parents also want to see their children grow old healthy. READ MORE
2023 was 'n moeilike jaar. The impact was not limited to cattle as the sheep industry was also affected. We saw the suspension of wool exports for a couple of months in China, a significant export market. At the time, China had cited the FMD disease outbreak as a reason to suspend South Africa's wool imports. But as we have highlighted before, China may have also had capacity issues at its ports at the time because of the tail-end effects of COVID-19 and the restrictions that lasted longer than in parts of the world. The South African Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) manages some 580 dams, 320 of which are considered to be major impoundments, storing more than one million cubic metres of water each. They store a combined 32 billion cubic metres of water, equivalent to 65% of South Africa’s annual rainfall runoff. From this, irrigation uses 62%, urban and domestic use equals 27% and mining, industry and power generation absorb a further 8%. Commercial forestry utilises the remaining 3%. Dams are, in reality, man-made or artificial lakes, necessary to sustain life and development in an arid environment that lacks natural lakes. While natural lakes form robust natural ecosystems, dams may be semi-natural at best. READ MORE -

The Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), an entity of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with industry body Milk South Africa (Milk SA) to advance development goals in the industry.
The directive, published in the Government Gazette early in October, came from the Minister of Trade Industry and Competition, Ebrahim Patel, in an attempt to prevent a possible shortage of chicken because of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak in South Africa.
Oktober was die vyfde maand agtereenvolgens waarin rekord hoë temperature aangeteken is.
Southern Africa’s largest veterinary compounding pharmacy, V-Tech, and the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) are gearing up to battle each other in court this week due to SAPHRA’s alleged refusal to release a vital consignment of trilostane, a key ingredient in V-Tech’s Cushing’s Disease medication.
Coal and waste are being highlighted as potentially viable sources of rare earth elements, critical raw materials for many globally implemented clean technologies, which could propel South Africa to the top of green energy producers.

South Africa -Demand is expected to support prices as we approach the festive season-Beef: The U.S. beef production is expected to fall for the remainder of 2023 putting pressure on global prices. Given that the U.S. plays a significant role in the global beef market, its declining production has notable effects on the overall global price dynamics.
Canada could soon have one less competitor in what is becoming a tight durum market.Russia’s agriculture ministry is proposing the government impose a six-month ban on durum exports starting Dec. 1.
