The Farming Portal/Agricultural Writers SA junior communicator awards seeks to encourage accurate storytelling and relaying of information within the agricultural sector. The competition seeks to create a platform where students of agriculture or journalism can publish their work and get a taste for communicating to the public and industry stakeholders. Winners will be announced in October 2025 at an event that will include a press conference and panel discussion on a topical subject. All media will be invited to the event. All attendees are responsible for their own transport to the event. The event will take place on the 30th October 2025 at 16h00 at Hollard Head Office Judging: A panel of judges will be appointed by Farming Portal, Agricultural Writers SA and Hollard. Articles will be allocated points based on a set criteria. Criteria: There are two sections to the competition, one for journalism students and another for students of agricultural disciplines. The Agricultural Communicator includes scientists and economists and excludes anyone who has had formal training in writing and communication. The Agricultural Writer includes all journalism students and excludes anyone who is employed full or part time as a writer. Students writing for publications as part of their syllabus are allowed to enter. CRA MEDIA/ Agriculture Writers SA Entries close 30th August 2025 Please click on the link below to Except the - Terms & Conditions. • All entrants is open for South Africans and International citizens under the age of 28. • The competition is not open to professional journalists. • Previous entries into the competition may not be submitted again. • Farming portal and Hollard Insurance Company Limited (Hollard) reserves the right to request proof of age. • A short CV must be submitted with the article, together with a photo of the writer, 250x250 pixels or above in JPEG format. • Articles must be submitted in English, if translated, the original text must accompany the submission. • The entry submission must be the entrant's own original work and not defame nor breach any copyright or contain anything that could be deemed offensive or inappropriate. Any material that is deemed unsuitable will be removed from the judging process and disqualified. • Entries will only be considered when submitted via the online mechanism. No other method of entry is permitted (this includes email or post). • Any entry with missing information will not be a valid entry and will not progress in the competition. • All entries, including any photographs, remain the property of the writer but Farmingportal.co.za and AGRI NEWS NET has the right to post the article without any payment or obligation. • Only ONE entry is allowed per individual. In the event of multiple entries being submitted by the same person the judges reserve the right to choose which entry they feel is the strongest to put forward to shortlisting rounds and disregard any other entries submitted by this person. • The competition closes at 24h00 on 30th August 2025. Late, incomplete, or illegible entries will be disqualified. Hollard and CRA MEDIA cannot take any responsibility for any technical failure or malfunction, which may result in any entry being delayed, or not properly submitted. • Winners will be announced before 30 September 2025 and published on Farmingportal.co.za and in the media. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted. The judges’ decision is final and no negotiations or correspondence regarding the competition will be entered into. Prizes will be awarded in cash by EFT, and paid before the end of October 2024, into the winner’s nominated bank account, selected winners will need to provide proof of their banking details for payment to be made. • By entering this competition, you give us permission to use the article that you provide for publication on the Agri Net News portal. • Hollard and CRA Media acknowledges that the ownership of any intellectual property rights in the entry remains with the entrants, but that by applying each entrant grants Hollard and CRA MEDIA the non-exclusive right to use or reproduce, free of charge, their entry or part thereof for the purpose of the competition, including publicising the competition in any and all media in perpetuity throughout the world, fulfilling the prize and any associated competition publicity / coverage by any company within the Hollard group and CRA Media on any medium or online by Hollard and CRA MEDIA, its subsidiaries or its selected third parties. • Hollard and CRA Media reserves the right to cancel the competition or change any of these rules at any stage if deemed necessary in its opinion or if circumstances arise outside of its control.
