Do not fall in - always stand out.

South Africa -Nationwide, farmers have been called upon to limit animal movements, avoid sourcing cloven-hoofed animals from restricted areas, and uphold strict farm biosecurity. .Auctioneers and livestock buyers are asked to remain vigilant when dealing with animals from outbreak-affected provinces, including KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga. FMD is a controlled disease under the Animal Diseases Act, 1984 (Act No. 35 of 1984). Any suspicious symptoms such as salivation, blisters, or lameness must be reported immediately to a State Veterinarian. The Act prescribes strict control measures, including animal isolation and movement restrictions, enforced by Veterinary Services.

South Africa’s agriculture is robust, with maize production on a steady, decades-long growth trajectory despite fluctuations. The 2025 grape crop is expected to be a bumper harvest after a challenging 2024. The Agbiz/IDC Agribusiness Confidence Index rose 11 points to 70 in Q1 2025, the highest since Q4 2021, marking three consecutive quarters of improvement. While African agriculture faces risks, technology and innovative business models are driving progress. Supportive policies and politics are critical to ensuring the sector thrives. Putting politics aside and focusing on economics, agriculture is in good health. Maize production continues a gradual, decades-long growth path, with all of the highs and lows expected of this industry. All indicators are that 2025 will be a bumper crop for grapes after a tough 2024.

Summary of the Weeks Headline news- ( Our mediums is overloaded with Farming and Agriculture news and we have great interest from International medium.)

In ’n dringende reaksie op die wydverspreide uitbreking van bek-en-klouseer (BEK) sal Red Meat Industry Services (RMIS) Maandag 9 Junie ’n gesentraliseerde Operasionele Sentrum (OS) by sy hoofkantoor aktiveer.

Soya, one of South African agriculture’s big success stories, is at risk of becoming another victim of the country’s struggling logistics sector as sluggish economic growth reduces local consumption and increases pressure for exports.

Alarm bells for meat lovers in South Africa The combination of a reduced supply of beef, the ban on Brazilian chicken imports, and the collapse of chicken producer DayBreak Foods could make meat much more expensive in South Africa.

AGOA Suspension: South Africa lost duty-free access to the US under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) starting April 2025, impacting key exports. Automotive Exports: Auto exports to the US dropped to R2.02 billion in April 2025 from R3.24 billion in April 2024, a 33% decline in Q1 2025 compared to Q1 2024.

This year began on a positive note for South Africa’s agriculture, particularly in terms of exports. In the first quarter of 2025, South Africa's agricultural exports totalled US$ 3.36 billion, up 10% from the same period a year ago. This is a function of both higher volumes of various product exports and better commodity prices.

Mooketsa Ramasodi, South Africa's Director-General for Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, is set to headline the upcoming Lekgotla focused on agricultural transformation.

The recent outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease at Karan Beef has understandably generated widespread public concern and industry commentary. As one of South Africa’s largest beef operations, a disruption at this scale has immediate implications for animal health management, market access, and trade confidence both locally and internationally.

The Kwena Dam, located in the Crocodile River system upstream of the City of Mbombela in Mpumalanga’s Ehlanzeni District, continues to maintain water levels above full capacity. According to the latest weekly State of Reservoirs report released by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) earlier this week, the dam remains stable at 100.5%, unchanged from the previous week.
