This AGRI NEWS RUSH -Some of the news stories of this week-, SUNDAY EDITIONALWAYS ON TIME  -

News Comments  - Internationally shared - Nothing Sensational.  News platform of the commercial farmers of South Africa .

Just that " ONE" step ahead-

The international credit ratings agency Fitch Ratings has again kept SA’s credit rating unchanged, saying that while the formation of the government of national unity (GNU) has lowered short-term policy uncertainty, risks to political stability remain due to contentious issues such as the implementation of the national health insurance (NHI).  Fitch’s rating remains at BB- with a stable outlook, indicating an elevated vulnerability to default risk. In its ratings report released on Friday, Fitch projected that the local economy would grow by 0.9% in 2024, 1.5% in 2025 and 1.3% in 2026.

The effects of the recent El Niño-induced mid-summer drought are starting to show in South Africa’s agricultural jobs data. For example, the figures recently released by Statistics South Africa show that employment in primary agriculture was down 5% quarter-on-quarter to 896k in the second quarter of 2024. From an annual basis perspective, the performance is also weak, although up 0,2% from the second quart of 2023. Still, the primary agricultural employment of 896k people remains well above the long-term jobs of 799k and generally reflects the harsh summer season we are leaving behind.
