– Art and culture is integral in advocating for animal welfare. This is evident from the just concluded Jinja International Art Festival, which commenced on October 24 showcasing an incredible array of artistic talent from across the globe.
In the last 40 years, we have lost some 60% of all animal and plant species on Earth. Increase of demand for meat not only involves horrible cruelty to billions of animals in factory farms, but huge areas of wild habitats are destroyed to grow crops for animal feed.
Prof Ben-Erik van Wyk was the key note speaker at the 3rd Conference. He received Lifetime Award at the National Science Technology Awards 2024 . Prof Ben-Erik van Wyk, Chair: Department of Science and Innovation (DSI)/National Research Foundation (NRF) South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) in Indigenous Plant Use, University of Johannesburg (UJ).
Agriculture is one of the major land uses in South Africa. However, the actions of producers can have a great impact on the associated natural environment.
