Most of the grapefruit currently on the market comes from Israel, Turkey and Spain, where the acreage is expanding.

  • The situation in the grapefruit market is currently very good. "The market in Europe is almost empty and that is resulting in high prices for the South African grapefruit. South Africa has slowly started shipping to the EU, after sending the largest volumes to Asia and Russia.

  • A very marketable crop of grapefruit, with a size distribution peaking on counts 40 and 45 and a higher percentage of class 1 exports over last year, will end earlier this season, which may cause some markets to run short of fruit.

  • The grapefruit market is currently in a transition between the northern and southern hemispheres.

  • Despite some countries suffering from poor conditions during the grapefruit growing season, the general outlook for the fruit is positive.
