The minister of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), Senzeni Zokwana signed the protocol to the 2007 World Wine Trade Agreement on the Requirements for Wine Labelling concerning alcohol tolerance, vintage, variety and wine regions – Protocol on Labelling – in Washington DC, United States of America (USA).

After a successful pilot and implementation by Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), the roll out of a new e-Certification IT platform to the fruit industry in 2019, will save the industry at least R250 million over the next five years.

If the application is successful, Karoo lamb will be the country’s first agricultural product to have its name, and therefore production, managed as a geographical indicator.
