The world is on track for a “hellish” 3C of global heating, the UN has warned before the crucial Cop28 climate summit that begins next week in the United Arab Emirates.

In a briefing to Parliament’s portfolio committee on forestry, fisheries and the environment on Tuesday, South Africa’s negotiating team for the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) outlined their focus for the conference in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December.

For the first time ever, food and agriculture took center stage at the annual United Nations climate conference in 2023.

The International Dairy Federation (IDF) and the European Dairy Association (EDA) organized an official side event at COP28 on “How animal source foods nourish the world in times of climate change”, that took place on Tuesday, December 5 at the Side Event room 9 in the Blue Zone.

The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) in Dubai ended Wednesday with what many are hailing as a landmark commitment to transition away from fossil fuels, though responses from leaders across the globe stress that not enough has been achieved in order to limit the worst impacts of climate change.
