Over the period under review, roasted decaffeinated coffee production continues to indicate a drastic shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 with an increase of 7% y-o-y. The level of roasted decaffeinated coffee production peaked at $1B in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, roasted decaffeinated coffee exports decreased by +0.8% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 26% year-to-year. Over the period under review, roasted decaffeinated coffee exports reached their maximum in 2018 and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country
France (7.1K tonnes) and Germany (6.8K tonnes) represented roughly 48% of total exports of roasted decaffeinated coffee in 2018. Italy (4.3K tonnes) occupied the next position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (4.2K tonnes) and Spain (2.8K tonnes). All these countries together occupied approx. 39% share of total exports. The following exporters - Belgium (862 tonnes) and Portugal (734 tonnes) - each amounted to a 5.5% share of total exports.

In France, roasted decaffeinated coffee exports increased at an average annual rate of +38.0% over the period from 2007-2018. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+4.0% per year) and Germany (-0.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2018, the roasted decaffeinated coffee export price in the European Union amounted to $10 per kg, rising by 5.5% against the previous year. Over the last eleven-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 an increase of 22% year-to-year. The level of export price peaked in 2018 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was France ($17 per kg), while Germany ($6.5 per kg) was amongst the lowest.

In value terms, roasted decaffeinated coffee imports totaled $386M (IndexBox estimates) in 2018. The total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2007 to 2018: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, roasted decaffeinated coffee imports increased by +18.6% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when imports increased by 49% year-to-year. Over the period under review, roasted decaffeinated coffee imports reached their peak figure in 2018 and are expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The imports of the seven major importers of roasted decaffeinated coffee, namely Spain, France, Belgium, the UK, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Luxembourg (1.2K tonnes), Austria (990 tonnes) and Greece (589 tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In 2018, the roasted decaffeinated coffee import price in the European Union amounted to $12 per kg, rising by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the last eleven-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 an increase of 27% year-to-year. The level of import price peaked at $14 per kg in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was France ($16 per kg), while Luxembourg ($7.5 per kg) was amongst the lowest.
