The EFF leader threats against the police is unacceptable and threatens the stability of the country, says TLU SA.

South Africa, and specifically the government, now faces one of the most stringent tests for credibility and peace in their handling of the situation.

During a rally in the Free State, the leader of the EFF said they would attack police in their homes.

The president of TLU SA, Mr Henry Geldenhuys, today laid a criminal complaint of terrorism and undermining the law, against the leader.

“It is completely unacceptable that a person can blatantly and publicly launch an attack against the SAPS and its members,” says Mr Geldenhuys. “The SAPS represents the law in our country, and any such attack should be seen in the harshest light possible. The fact that he is a sitting member of parliament should count as aggravating circumstances.

“The state should use any means possible to end behaviour and comments like these.”

It is impossible to create stability in South Africa when the government only releases a press statement in reaction to this behaviour. It is not enough. He has repeatedly proven himself as one of the most significant destabilising factors to law and order, as well as relationships in the country.

“Baseless statements like these are completely unacceptable to the farming sector,” says Mr Geldenhuys. “It is worrying that they are creating a climate where you can settle a difference by resorting to physical violence. The comments of the leader and his gang contributes to the culture of violence in South Africa.

“The government should prove they can successfully govern the country and aren’t simply pawns in the EFF’s games, in their handling of its leader.”
